I have a 6 year old gelding that makes a snapping sound when he walks. I've had a vet look at him and he thinks that the sound comes from his pelvis area (on his right side). I agree. I hadn't really worried about this noise, because he has never been lame or off a day in his life. Recently though, we have considered offering him for sale, and people have been put off by the noise. That's when I had the vet look at him. He didn't see any lameness in my gelding and he said that it would be difficult to get ex-rays because of the deep tissue in that area. The only other thing that he mentioned would be to take him to an university to be tested on a tread mill. We will probably keep him before going to that expense. It's at least 4 hours to the nearest university with a vet school. He told me that he would inform anyone interested in the gelding that he was sound. This gelding does not make this sound all the time. Some days I never hear it and others I hear it almost every step. I have a friend that said she used to have a mare that did the same thing, and she had her her whole life and she was never lame. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this problem and what you thought of it.

Hello Karen, this is one of the most frequent posts on this board. To read many stories about horses with a similar problem try running a discussion search on "clicking" and some of the possible explanations. THe short of it is that it is not associated with lameness.
