Dr. O and anyone else.. have you ever noticed that the white hoof of a horse is warmer then a dark hoof..? I have been dealing with hoof issues with a horse of mine, checking his distal pulse and have noticed that his hoofs are warm...so i checked all the horses in the barn and what i found is that the black hoofs are almost COLD to touch and all the white hoofs were warm to the touch.. I have several horses and several with white hoofs and ALL the whites were warm... Is this common... ?? On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with SPOTS..

There could be some physical reasons for this. Black radiates heat more efficiently than white and conversely absorbs heat more efficiently. So in sunlight the black hooves become warmer faster and out of the sun will cool more rapidly. DrO

oh there is no doubt that there is something physical going on with the gelding.. but the pony I am pretty sure nothing there.. I have also noticed that the gummy/rubber bell boots that I leave on him seem to make his hoofs warmer still, thus I turn them up at night when he is stabled and no worry about him over stepping and pulling a shoe off... He weights all hoofs equally, does not point , stands under himself squarely, so I am hoping its not a founder like attack... X rays for now are out of the question... Its just interesting to me that the white hoofs are warmer to touch then the black ones while in the stable... On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with SPOTS..
