Hi, Please bear with me I'm new. I have a friend who's horse got his leg stuck in their wire fence, at first the wound was medium size and could be taken care of easy. Now, 3 weeks later it looks terrible, their vet told them the wound is in the normal healing process and told them just to keep putting scarlet oil on th wound. I have tried to convince them into getting a second opinion, the horse is starting to lose some weight. I'm looking for some more opinions on this wound, it does not look normal to me! I will try to attach pictures, any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

Hi Starr, I can't help with the wound care, but have you read the article on it. I would start there then ask questions. https://www.horseadvice.com/horse/messages/4/1048.html

Wow Starr, That is one ugly wound. Not having seen the original wound it is difficult to know if you are going forward or backward. By all means review the first aid and long term wound care articles for suggestions but your friend needs veterinary direction and there may be better ways of treating this than simply pouring scarlet oil on the wound.
