Posted on Monday, Aug 25, 2008 - 8:05 pm: Hi DrO, I've been reading through all this diarrhea info, but still need to ask a question. My new horse doesn't have diarrhea, but squirts out water after he goes, maybe before, but he always has mess on his back legs and there's a wet spot under the piles in his stall (my other horses don't do that). I saw that adding beet pulp to his diet might help, and I will probably try that, but I'm wondering if him having HYPP might have anything to do with it since he's on a low potassium diet? I thought maybe the way his body processes things might be causing it? I don't think he's much too underweight, and he has gained since he got here in May (he doesn't work). I gave him a double dose of Equimax (Ivermectin/Praziquantel) and have had him on my worming schedule since. Would love to hear any thoughts you have. As always, thank you for your time! |

I don't believe it is related to the HYPP directly but you are right his diet may be having an effect. I think your best step would be to try the dietary adjustments we suggest in the overview article that do not interfere with your goal of messing up the potassium. DrO |

Posted on Thursday, Jul 14, 2011 - 1:02 pm: I have had a pony for 3 years now. When I got her they said the diarrhea was from too many carrots(not true) Any way he is healthy normal stools except he squirts a watery black feces here and there which makes a mess on his behind, tail and legs. I have changed his diet many times, treated him with pysillium etc. With my different trials it may get better for a few days then goes back to the squirts. Yes I did try beet pulp. I was going to try maybe yogurt for the live bacteria but not sure on how to feed. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. I keep buying and trying so many products that are no good. Thanks Cindy p.s. not sure where to find your response once given--my email is ryddasea@aol.com thanks again |

Posted on Thursday, Jul 14, 2011 - 11:25 pm: Welcome Cindy,I believe we can help you with your question but let me get you started off right so you can get the best answer as quick as possible. You will get more responses if you start your own discussion rather than post at the bottom on another member's discussion. Each discussion is "owned" by the original poster and all replies in that discussion should either directly or indirectly address the concerns of the original poster. To start your own discussion back up one page using the navigation bar at the top of this page. This will be a Article Page on this topic. Below the article you will find a list of already existing discussions on this topic. Under this list you will find the "Start New Discussion" button. This is a good topic on your subject so you should first review the article as it will have important information on your subject. Next check the titles of the already existing discussions to see if your question has already been answered. If your question remains unanswered, now is the time to Start a New Discussion. Select a short title that describes your specific concern. A title like "Help!!!" does not help others find your specific topic. Instead something like "Ace for Colic?" allows others to rapidly find and understand what your topic is about just by viewing the title. This is likely to bring more responses from those with some experience with your topic and allows members to find answers to their questions quicker. DrO |

I have a TB who has been fighting ulcers for a while, we've gone through all kinds of treatments and we've found something that is working to calm his tummy and give him fairly normal stool. At first he was literally 'pissing out his butt' (sorry, best description I could come up with) It may be a band-aid but it makes him comfortable and is more affordable than continued Omeperazol, etc. Kentucky Performance Products has this stuff called Neigh-Lox, check out their site (they're on Facebook too) and see if it's something you might like to try, it's working for my big ol' 17.3 off the track TB. |
