I have sand in my close up pen for my 2 horses. They are fed in hay bens that are elevated and away from the sand area. Do I need to be concerned with possible sand colic? There are no symptoms yet. Should I give a sand colic supplement to prevent any possible problems with sand. The horses lay on the sand during rainy season. Thank you for any thoughts on this.

Welcome Rhonda,
Horses not fed on sand usually do not have problems but there are exceptions. There are easy ways to test for sand in the bowel and you will find it in the article associated with this discussion area "Sand Colic". The article also addresses the other issues you list. You can get to it by selecting Sand Colic off the navigation bar at the top of the page.
