This is a 4 year old, with about 100 hours under saddle. I noticed on 10/13/08 that she had some slight thickening starting from the top of the cannon bone and continuing on down to the fetlock. I thought I felt a small little bump as well. I assumed she just rapped herself in turnout, so I rode her lightly that day. Today 10/14/08, the hind leg is significantly swollen from below the hock down to an including the fetlock. It feels hard on palpation. I don't know whether she is lame or not, because I don't want to risk lunging her if this is a suspensory injury. I do have an appointment tomorrow for an ultrasound, etc. at the clinic, but I am not sure if I should give her some bute or not. Right now I have an ice pack on her leg, which I will continue to do throughout the day.

She felt sound when I was riding her yesterday, but with young horses they are often unbalanced and feel uneven. Also, from experience, I know that a suspensory injury doesn't always make a horse that lame and some can be bad and don't even swell.

Hello Marion,
I don't see anything in your post that indicates bute necessary tonight.
