I have yet another issue with my draft percheron gelding. He now has a hock sore from lying down that I have been treating for 2mnths now. I have been to the vet 2x and had a different vet out 2x. I am at a loss. The first vet said to keep it clean with betadyne scub and it will go away. NO it didn't! then after it got bigger we went back and he said panalog creme and ivermectin straight on it after we scrubit. NO it didn't! sooo we had the next vet out and she said he now has a fever, it is turning proud flesh and to put thermalene creme on-keep wrapped-and clean daily-plus oral antibiotics for 7days with bute. That was on 10/1/08. My horse hates me! His wound is getting bigger, everytime I clean it it bleeds and ooses a jelly substance and I don't no what to do HELP PLEASE!!! OH and he has DrOpped to a staggering 1200lbs and is 16.3 hands. He loves to still eat and his temp has gone away I just don't no what to do with his sore. OH and the other discussions about fural spray for get it his wound screams after that stuff!!!

What worked for my horse last year is conquer gel. Give him the loading dose for two weeks. It's the way he was getting up (hocks were sore so he was compensating) that was causing his sores. I too tried every concoction known to man, hock boots, duct tape, moleskin... nothing worked. That said, he just recently started healing again, he too had the last two months of a terrible quarter sized hock sore on the right. I didn't have the money for conquer gel, so I used another HA supplement, didn't work. I started him on Platinum Performance Complete Joint Supplement two weeks ago and the sore hasn't broken open again and is healing nicely. I also make sure every place he lays down is soft and cushy ... my two cents Good luck!
