I am looking at a horse whose owner has told me that she had xrays done on his front feet.
The xrays showed some discoloration/mottling in the coffin bone.
Apparently it was described as mild, the horse is 6yrs old, has been under regular work, has not shown any signs of lameness.
I am wondering what the discoloration could mean.

thank you.

Hello Lori,
Without viewing the radiographs there is little we can do other than guess as someone could mean many things when they say mottling. Besides the size and specific areas of the mottling is the mottling caused by increase areas of density or decrease areas of density? We describe various changes and there significance at, Diseases of Horses » Lameness » The Interpretation of Radiographs. Discoloration is even tougher since radiographs don't normally have color. Your best course here is to have your veterinarian review these radiographs.
