I have a call into my vet, but in the meantime, are they the dreaded sarcoids? there are around 20 in various places on body, head, legs and flank. None near teats or rear-end area. One on belly where girth goes. I first started noticing them about a month ago. In hindsight, It was a warty looking growth, but I thought it was pine pitch, I saw her scratch it off and never gave it a second thought.(now its a sort of a flat scar.
Anyway, I thought they were pitch from a tree, but recently I noticed they have sores underneath the matted, crunchy feeling hair. They vary in sizes most are smaller than my pinky nail. a couple are as large as my thumbnail.

and another

same spot(flank) as second pic, but hair is pulled back

heres a smaller one before lifting hair

and here is it after lifting hair

Shes been very itchy lately. Neighbors cows are in the pasture next to hers.
Thanks
Leslie

Though the images are difficult to decipher, it does not appear you have hairless nodules which best describes sarcoids. Instead I think you are dealing with rain rot and what you describe as "warty" is actually scabs. For more see, Diseases of Horses » Skin Diseases, Wounds, and Swellings » Hair and Coat Problems / Itching / Irritated Skin » Rain Rot and Rain Scald: Dermatophilus.
