Discussion on Swelling below chestnut on inside front

Hi, What has my mare possibly injured if she had swelling and pain right beneath the chestnut on the inside of her knee? My vet just said, rather vaguely, "ligament damage"... Thanks

The area you indicate is the carpal canal which is a rather large and complicated ares of ligaments and tendons that is described in the article on Lameness of the Knee under the Carpal Canal SynDrOme subtopic. The way to define which structures within the canal might be effected would be to use a ultrasound. DrO
