Happy New Year Dr. O and all!

Brave has an injury or abscess on his coronet band on the right hind. He's sound for him, just nqr to the right on the lunge, does bear weight on it.

Can you tell enough from these pictures if I should have a vet out?

Same picture, just cropped

I just attempted to clean it with a baby wipe then put neosporin on it. He didn't want me fussing with it at all.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Aileen,
We cannot make the decision whether to call a vet or not because we cannot examine the horse and it depends on some variables which we have little knowledge of. For instance, if this worsens could you get a vet out on Saturday?

I can say that in general a small shallow wound to the coronet with no lameness associated with it should be fine with good simple wound care.

Thank you Dr. O, yes I can get a vet out tomorrow if it worsens. He seems fine this morning. I'll hose it once the rain stops. I'll take some scissors to that flap too, hopefully he'll let me cut it off.
