Inside top of left hock. Hock is greatly hardened and enlarged. Horse is lame on that leg. Not sure if the enlargement is due to injury or arthritis. Not sure if this growth is due to the enlargement or may be the cause. The growth leaks fluid and crusts over. The fluid looks like lymphatic fluid. One vet speculated that it could be synovial fluid. Another view: Also, on prepuce is another swelling that looks as if it has broken through the skin . . . like something from the Alien movie . . . get's crusty, too. This is after it was washed off. He's an Appy. These growths have been present since I got this 30+ year old horse to save him from auction. I've known the horse since 2004. His appetite seems good. He's extremely "studdy," and his appetite wanes when his mare is in heat, but he has lots of personality. Worries about his mares and won't eat unless he can be with them . . . and his condition hasn't gotten worse.

Uck...I want to cut it all off, whatever it is. Give the ol' boy a hug from me. He's unique and I hope he stays comfortable and you figure out what that is.

Holy, the bottom one kind of looks like a mole. You didn't say in your post, but has she had an injury; just wondering if the top one could be cartilage or a free floating bone sticking out. Dr. O could tell you if their was a wipe or smear test for synovial or lymphatic fluid. If there is I have never heard of it. is it tender to the touch? Hotter than surrounding skin? What is the texture of the white piece sticking out of the top photo? KNow I haven't been much help, but hope the old guy doesn't have anything serious.

Hello Holly, The white skin and appearance is somewhat suggestive for squamous cell carcinoma but there are many possible rule outs for more see, Diseases of Horses » Skin Diseases, Wounds, and Swellings » Bumps / Nodules / Warts / Tumors » Squamous Cell Carcinoma. DrO
