Hi DrO and others
Recently Pumpkin (Appendix/QH) has been doing weird postures with her hindlegs. Ive only seen her doing this when standing around. ( she seems perfectly sound out in the pasture and no swelling anywhere)I cant remember if its the same leg or not. She did them yesterday
She will lift her hind leg and hold it up for a second...sometimes slap it to the ground, sometimes set it down slowly. She also does a 'ballerina' move where she will put one hind leg behind the other and 'scratch' the opposite hock. Like she is scratching the outside(Posterior) of her hock with the inside(cranial, anterior)part of her other hock.Ive seen her do this a couple of times. Ive never seen her do these postures before these last few months.
Since there is no swelling or lameness I am confused.
Thanks for your time:-)

I suppose this is a dumb question, but there aren't any gnats or flies around where you live this time of year are there?

Leslie, Hank does those things also...the "balarina move" is so weird! I've only seen one other horse be able to do that, it should be physically impossible. I considered the lifting and slapping a stretch of sorts. He has been doing this stuff since he was a young fellow and never seemed to affect his soundness, I don't think Tho he always has had what I call a hitch in his get along so maybe it is related. Curious what Dr.O. says.

Since there is no lameness or maybe even if there was also lameness, it sounds like she is stretching and scratching.

My quarter horse does the stretchy, but not the scratchy thing. He has both hock issues and PSSM, but is also frequently lame. Like the others have said, if your horse is not lame, I wouldn't worry!
