I have an 18 y/o gelding who has been diagnosed with an annular ligament constriction. Surgery is recommended. He's been injected and rested and is a little better but not up to par. I'm old, he's old, what are people's experiences with this surgery?? What happens afterwards, what is the time off, rehab, etc.??? Is it a positive outcome?? Would he be ok if I put him out to pasture and let him retire?? Or would he be worse off?? Thanks.

Welcome Kacy,
A accurate prognosis requires knowing more details about the condition of your horse's ankle. There are both simple and complicated cases of annular ligament constriction How to go about determining this and what it means to the prognosis is explained at <Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Diseases of the Lower Limb » Annular Ligament Constriction.
