Went to see a horse recently WB x Saddlebred 18 months old. I noticed when he was resting one hind leg half of the hoof was resting on the ground and it looked strange. It was not one off he was doing it every time when resting a hind leg. Other horses will normally put the hoof upright resting only the end of it. Horse does not look lame either resting or in movement. Any idea? Thanks.

I have a gelding that does kind of the same thing when eating in his stall. He will alternate from a stance similar to this, but not quiet exact, to the more normal one where he will rest on his toe. He is as sound a horse as they come, so I know he isn't lame or hurt. I think horses are like humans in that way...they find a position that is comfortable for them, and use it, no matter what others may think. He definitely doesn't act like he is in any sort of pain here, so I would say that that is just his thing...that is as long as he walks, trots, and runs with no trouble (ie. slightly dragging hind leg when walking). Pretty horse too!!
