Dr. O, I was reviewing the udpated deworming schedule and had a question:

You list using ivermectin at the start of the fall warm season (daytime temps in the 45-85 region). I have always been told to use ivermectin after several killing frosts, more related to nighttime temps than daytime, with the idea that you want to use it to control bot eggs after the bot flies are dead.

Is this consistent with your recommendation?

Thanks!

Great question Shannon. The problem with trying to kill the "fall bot" after a few killing frosts is that may still be migrating L1 larvae and resistant to ivermectin. "Spring" and "early summer bots" are picked up by this fall deworming. The fall bots are then picked up as susceptible stage 3 larvae with the "beginning warm weather" moxidectin.

The article does give management instructions to lessen the impact of bots and makes deworming addendum's for heavy bot infestations. I have expanded this in the article to give more concrete instructions.
