My friend's horse has become ever so slightly off on left hind. The horse showed some tenderness when being massaged (behind the point of the hip) and has since had the sacroilliac chiropractically adjusted (twice) by the vet which helps for several days. The saddle fit has also been adjusted. When at rest, turned out, the horse has always stood in a position that lets her dig her hind toes into the sand and allows her hind heels to be propped up a little on the sand ridge of the turnout. You can see toe marks all along the edge of the turn out. She doesn't park out, though. She has done this since she was quite young. We are wondering if the stance was telling us anything of note that might help with the lameness.

No Chris, even if a new behavior it would not be specific for a location of lameness. On sandy ground I would guess any rested foot would dig in as you describe with time. Some might take such behavior as signs of chronic heel pain but this should be confirmed with diagnostic anesthesia and if it does not block out there continued up the leg until the lameness relieved.
