Hi everyone. I have a 8-year-old quarterhorse, Titan, who had an laminitis episode last July. It was mild. His coffin bone did not rotate. Most of the bad hoof has grown out. He has an excellent farrier who comes regularly. I'm having my vet come out on Apr. 13 to check teeth, give the West Nile shot and test for insulin resistance and hyperinsulema. I hope he is not. A nutritionist at Otter Co Op in Aldergrove BC has been wonder helping me - he is on a number of supplements and has used a muzzle to go outside. He feels if he is not insulin resistant or has hyperinsulema he can start going out on spring grass. What I would like to know is what is the test for insulin resistance and hyperinsulema and is it accurate? Thanks everyone.

Hello Janice, we refer to this type condition in horses as Metabolic SynDrOme. We discuss this is great detail including the various type of testing and it's interpretation at Diseases of Horses » Endocrine System » Equine Metabolic SynDrOme (Peripheral Cushings). DrO

Thanks, Dr. O. I looked before but couldn't find it. I'll look again where you say to look. Janice
