Dr. O, I would like your opinion about using human eye DrOps. The whites of my horses eyes are red, but he has no swelling or weeping, and they look good otherwise. He does have some hives, and last year when he had hives he also had red eyes when he first got the hives. I have read that there is no problem with using human eye DrOps in horses, and I would rather use human eye DrOps. I would ask my vet, but they will just try to sell me some of their eye DrOps for $300. Can I use the allergy types, or just maybe the No More Tears?

What type DrOps are you considering Patricia?

I was considering Visine's "Artificial Tears" or one of their allergy products. I would keep it simple.

My vet told me to use Visine A on the horses if they had allergies....never tried it tho.

I really cannot speak to the safety or efficacy of OTC eye medications but I suspect if they are safe in humans they may be safe in horses.
