My pumpkin eater, age 7, is a little lame again.
Here is the gist of it:
She started acting a little off last summer...Short stiff gait, with head bob at the trot going to the right.. So we put shoes on her. Didnt really help. She had the winter off. I took her to a trainer 2 weeks ago so she could learn to do a little cubbing/fielding but she has been gimpy the whole time . Better some days, worse others. Never 100%
I am having the vet out to do a lameness evaul. this friday. There is no swelling anywhere. She starts out stiff but seems to get a little better after warm up. (not completely better tho)
One minute I think arthritis the next CHP.
I will move this thread to the appropriate place when I get a diagnosis.

Best wishes with the vet, Leslie. Please post the results so we can all learn. Lameness can be frustrating, vague and difficult to pinpoint- not to mention expensive!

Thanks for the well wishes. The reason I love this site is because it offer 2 avenues of info---professional equine vet advice and also a whole lot of personal owner experience...both being priceless to me.
I will keep a before, during and after of her story (for the next person that has to go thru it)

Hope you get to the bottom of it Leslie. Nothing worse then undiagnosed lameness, at least when mine do it, they do it up big so no guessing!

Why are you thinking CHP are her hooves underrun?

Hope it's nothing serious

Just conjecture /paranoia. She seems better with rest and worse with work. short choppy stride.
I know that 'could' be anything tho.
we will see tomorrow

Hope you have a good vet! I still can't get over how FRONT shoes cured Hanks backend lameness. So you never know with these animals.

Let us know how it goes for punkin

This sounds so much like my old boy who was diagnosed with navicular. He obviously had heel pain and his heels were underrun and nearly contracted.

This was thanks to years of farrier work in accordance with how they have been taught, but with poor results.

For the past couple of years he has been more sound than when he was eight years old, now at 23 + years of age, thanks to a fine "natural" farrier. He was never entirely sound before and had severe bouts of intermittent lameness.

Now his whole way of going and general demeanor is completely changed.
