A question - my mare was started on 1mg of pergolide on monday and within 24-48 hours her laminitis symptoms improved dramatically. She had been only able to turn very, very slowly and in her special boots over the weekend and is now moving around her stall quite well (well enough to try and escape her medicine which she couldn't do before) and with very little bute. Not saying she's sound ready to go trotting around or anything but the difference is very noticeable. She is perky and and walking to meet me at the gate again. Can pergolide make a difference in a current episode that fast or is it just coincidence??

It may be the pergolide tamara but we cannot rule out this might have happened without it. Improvement in as little as 3 days has been reported while a small percent are not relieved by it at any time. DrO

I had a similar experience when my mare went on pergolide 4 years ago. Her attitude and energy picked up within 3 days. Over the 4 years that she's been on pergolide, her dosage has been increased twice. Each time, it was a return of an extreme depressive attitude that tipped me off. As soon as the dosage was increased, she perked right up. She seems to have settled down at her current dose which she has been on for about 2 1/2 years.
