Hey what was the otc type stuff that could be concoted to make a panalog type cream?
Skeeter has rain rot/scratches on his croup and all 4 pasterns. His owner did say he has photosensitivity to clover. Basically since its been raining for 3 days his white areas have just exploded with scabs?!
I hate to have to stall a cribber but will if I need to -to dry him out, or to put him on hay.
I think DianeE had a recipe? 1 part neosorin, 1 part desitin? Maybe just soak him in human grade Iodine?

Triple antibiotic and cortosone cream. Another thing that works very well (maybe better) is the cow mastitis stuff... tomorrow

oooo
Thanks Diane! I will try that as I would like to see if I can knock this out fast and keep him on pasture. I cant believe how fast it 'bloomed' on him...he had a sunburn type thing going on in his white areas and now this rain scald. Poor guy. He doesnt act like it hurts...I pour some clorhexidine(SP?) on his croup tonight. I suppose you scrap the scabs off then squirt the dry cow stuff on the sores?

Nope no scraping just soak well and they will soften up and fall off easily. I applied twice daily...A.M. and P.M. You will see results in a day...maybe 2.

If you are having a reaction to the clover (I hate that stuff) which it sounds like from the sunburn description, nothings going to help much until you remove him from it.... ask Lee

If this is a case of alsike clover poisoning and photosensitivity remember it is damaging the liver, for more on diagnosing this condition see, Diseases of Horses » Colic, Diarrhea, GI Tract » Mouth, Esophagus, and Liver » Plant Poisoning and the Liver: Hepatotoxicty.

Hi Diane: I was just thinking the other day of either trying this home made panalog or the mixture of 50% bleach/50% water that I remember you used to use. Have you not had such good results with the bleach/water lately? (Have to admit I find the bleach part rather scary )

LL I have never used bleach on anything, except years ago I tried it on thrush. The stuff I mentioned above works great for me, and has for years. The real panalog...or the generic version is the best...worth every penny!

Thanks Diane and sorry for mistaking you for someone else! There was SOMEONE on here who recommended the bleach/water thingy ... I felt so sure it was you. I'll have to give up trusting my memory; it's clearly shot to pieces

Well, Sara, I have to admit that my mind went to Angie immediately after Diane put me right (and also that I often didn't pick up on your mistaking them for each other in the past either! ).

You don't seem to do it any more - think you've passed the baton on to me!

I've learned to scroll up and see you posted! I'm often on the computer in an early morning fog or late night one; or maybe am just reaching that stage in life where I'm foggy all the time.

LOL you guys. Im always foggy

I went to my local TSC and had to get 'today'...they didnt have 'tomorrow' but a different dry cow mastitis product that had different active ingredient, so I passed on it and stuck with today.
The lady at checkout said is this for a cow....or...horse? I said horse..she said "wow !your one of the few that know about this for horses, you must have scratches?"...I said "I learned about it thanks to HA and my nicker sister:-)'
So I went out last night and slathered some on him. I was wrong when I said they wserent painful...cuz the ones on his legs seem a little:-(

Aha! It was a different Diane who used chlorox/water for scratches - a Diane without an "E"! See "Scratches, Grease Heel, Dew Poisoning & Mud Fever - Scratches Treatment Recipe".

It's a VERY long thread, and her posts are August 5th and 8th 2008.

At least I remembered PART of the name - does this mean I'm only PARTLY demented?
