Hi there! I am a new member of HorseAdvice.com and am very happy to be here and support this site. I have a 19 year old gelding named Ben who is a percheron. He was a rescue (came to us starved, with possible cushings, shoes 2 sizes too small, cigar burns on his legs and a broken penile shaft). He is now the proper weight, on a great diet, has DrOpped his "cushings coat" and now, middle of winter, is an easy keeper. He's the joy of my life - and I never even had a horse before him. We recently rescued a yearling mare, and upon meeting my gentle Ben became very possessive of Isis. It subsided after a while, and 8 months later they are doing very well. I do regular cleaning of his sheath and noticed in the span of a week between cleanings, that he seemed to have... spawned testicles. Equal sized in the proper location, they do not respond to pain and do not pit (not edema) and their equal size and temperature makes me think its not a serenoma. My vet is coming out tomorrow, judging its not an emergency as there is no pain, he is urinating normally and is his normal self. I'm trying to think of other ideas so I can research before she comes. As silly as it sounds, I compared photos online to a draft stallion's genetalia to Ben's... and it's spot on. If it's a serenoma, then he got it in just the right place. Thanks in advance, if at least to quash my worrying, Meg

Megan, Dr. O will no doubt comment soon about this problem. I don't know anything about this condition. How sad to hear about Ben's past history of poor treatment and so glad that you now have this lovely boy, as I am sure he is glad too.

Welcome Megan, Hmmm...equal size bilateral swellings that appear just like testicles but are not painful to palpation, not tissue edema, and not a seroma. None of these would really look like testicles anyway as they would not be pedunculated. Geez you have me stumped, let's see what the veterinarian says. If I had to guess there is fat accumulation that you have not noticed coming on but it really would not look pendulous like testicles. A image might help us. DrO
