Can Vet J. 2009 Aug;50(8):851-3. Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis caused by Neospora hughesi in an adult horse in Saskatchewan. Wobeser BK, Godson DL, Rejmanek D, Dowling P. Department of Veterinary Pathology, Western College of Veterinary Medicine, 52 Campus Drive, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7N 5B4. A protozoal parasite identified as Neospora hughesi was found in inflammatory lesions in the central nervous system of a Canadian-born adult horse presented with neurological signs. This is believed to be the first case of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) caused by Neospora hughesi in a horse outside of the United States.
