Dr.O. I thought I would enter Hank in the research for genetic links going on at U of Mn. https://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=16038 They accepted Hank as a potential candidate... he is the poster child for it They want a "control" on the property that hasn't foundered or has CD(that leaves Sam out). Do you think Flash (Hanks mother) who has never foundered, can eat grass until she is blue in the face and still be OK qualify. The problem being she is fat, old, and does have a somewhat cresty neck. I do not believe she has EMS, she tolerates everything given to her, she doesn't have the fat "lumps" like the boys. Do you think she would qualify as a control... or should I scrap the idea?

P.S it is ironic that she is his mother... I have had 3 foals out of her and everyone of them...from different sires, was just like Hank. Foundered if the wind blew wrong...fat on air ect. Wonder what the genetic link might be there??? When she doesn't seem to be affected with the affliction. Matter of fact it was mostly her foals I have had problems with other than one other horse. I have owned at least 50 horses through the years. Thanks

Gosh Diane, that would be a question for the researchers, I am not sure how she would fit into this program. DrO

I would if I Could Dr.O., but they just ask for a non-EMS control horse... I'm not sure if she qualifies since she is a little tubby with a cresty neck. I think I am suppose to decide if she meets the requirements. Thanks

Hank made the second round.. they said if Flash didn't work they would use one of their horses as a control... Hank sounded very good to them...not surprising!!
