The vet and the new farrier think she is ok for some light riding around the meadows, I am looking for another opinion because I am very leery but she clearly wants to get out and do something. She has been totally pasture sound all winter, running around like a maniac. Do you think it is safe to take her to go on a toodle once a week in an arena or grassy trail? Is a dirt road too hard for her? Thanks - Tamara |

Take it easy at first, she will tell you what she can and can not handle. What kind of shoes does she have on? Does she have padding with the shoe? |

She has been with only partial pads (ring around the outside to keep snow balls at bay) since the fall and is in regular shoes now. Amazing to me as this time last year she was in hospital plates. I was thinking of putting some boots with those easycare pads over her shoes to give her a bit more shock absorption but then I wondered if that would be overkill? Is there such a thing? |

She has grown more sole so maybe it isn't necessary. If ridden on hard ground I think I would...JMHO Dr.O. can tell you more than I can about it.At the moment all my horses are doing great...subject to change at a blink of an eye! Thanks for asking |

However we can just try to understand within the limits of this medium and information you provide and make comments for you to evaluate with the help of your veterinarian.Looking at the above images the one comment I have is that at the very least I would want to move the breakover point way back by squaring off all that extra toe and this seems to be a poster child for derotation as described at Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Diseases of the Hoof » Founder & Laminitis » Rehabilitation and Derotation of Foundered Horses. Just wanted to post update and new pictures to follow the xrays from march for anyone interested...Heading into the danger zone of mid august - mid sept and she's off any pasture, on integri-T and pergolide. Safe hay in storage. Sound and jolly and trotting like she's on springs for now, but nervous to check each morning! Here we go... |
