I have a 17 year old large pony who is colicing. This morning we found that he got out of his stall and rolled in several other horses stalls to the point that he had abrasions and kicked boards down in one of the stalls. We gave him Banamine and called the vet. At about 9 am the vet tubed him with mineral oil. At that point he had no gut sounds. She palpated him and the only thing she noted was he seemed to have gas trapped in the large colon. He had a few manure balls she pulled out when palpating. At 1:00 he was doing a little better, was a little brighter looking had some gut sounds and was passing gas. She tubed him with a water and electrolyte solution. She palpated him, pulled out some more manure balls and said his colon did not feel as swollen. This evening we removed a few more manure balls. Each time he was tubed (8 and 1) he had little to no reflux. He has no interest in food or water. He likes to walk a while then lay down. When he lays down he usually passes gas. He was willing to trot a little and this seemed to help some too. If you have any advice I sure would appreciate it. I am wondering if it is an impaction that is not totally blocked which is why some things are getting through? Thanks Brenda
