Posted on Thursday, Aug 26, 2010 - 9:33 am: Thank you to HA and its members for information and help. This rookie was able to treat and bandage the "beginnings of a gravel". When the trimmer was out last week, she exposed a small "divot" at about 11:00 on the rf foot. There were a few, tiny stones in that divot. Which of course could have become a big problem had they been there long enough. Even though there hasn't been a sign of infection, I've soaked in Betadine and water solution and then treated the "divot" with Betadine again after drying the foot. Wrapped a tiny diaper on the foot and then the magical "Hoof Wrap" brand name bandage. I'm sure the Hoof Wrap was probably mentioned by one of the HA folks. Anyway, being the nerd, rabid rookie, I purchased several of them to have on hand. And of course diapers and anything else that has been mentioned on here... The Hoof Wrap was fairly easy for me to use. Since I've NEVER wrapped a foot/hoof, I was afraid to use the multiple layers of bandage, gauze, vet wrap or duct tape because I didn't want it to be too loose, too tight, too uneven, etc. The Hoof Wrap simplified the process for me. And thank goodness for YouTube. I can watch people wrap feet and get the general idea since I have no one to watch here. The internet is a wonderful tool. Thank you all for posting your problems and solutions on this site. It is very helpful. I rarely post as I usually have nothing to offer other than encouragement or thanks. So, thanks again. I think Diva mare will be fine. She was never lame, but with her Diva self, one can never be too careful.
