Good evening to all. I have a 2 year old QH that is in training to become a reining horse for my daughter. I have searched the web and I cannot find a boot for the rear leg that will offer the protection I am looking for. The filly somehow manages to clip (cut) her hind legs between the fetlock and coronet band. All the boots that I have seen leave the exact area I am trying to protect exposed. Basically, I would need a bell boot for the hind legs. Do you (or my fellow HAers) have any suggestions?

I am considering polo wraps but I am afraid that I will not wrap that area correctly and I cannot find any information on how to wrap that area. It is very low on the leg and I don't want to restrict her movement.

Any advice from you Dr. O or others will be greatly appreciated.

See my suggestion on your other thread.

Heidi, is the horse cutting the sides of the pastern from interference from the other side or the front from the front toe catching the hind pastern?

PS Rachelle, I deleted the others before reading here as Heidi indicated she was going to post elsewhere.

Dr. O, I think I used the wrong term in my earlier post. The cuts are occurring on the front of the hind legs right above the coronet band (I used a reference picture to identify the correct term). I think it is from the front toe catching the hind pastern. I am not 100% certain. I did speak to the farrier and he feels the horse is balanced correctly. He said that young horses in training sometimes have this problem while learning where to place their feet.

I have since come across something called a fetlock ring. Do you think this would help my filly?

Thanks

Heidi,

I think Dr. O deleted my suggestion on your other thread.

My suggestion was for a pair of Wrappers by Protecto. Go to www.bigdweb.com and look at the trotting boots with a speedy cut. The Wrappers are like a pair of neoprene tendon boots for back legs and they have a speedy cut piece that covers the area that you need protected.

Good Luck
