My gelding has a white coating on his penis, foul smelling and sometimes it gets on his hind legs. That is actually how I found it, seeing something on his legs. I had the vet out about 3 weeks ago, cleaned his sheath, put him on antibiotics but said he had never seen anything like it and to clean his sheath every week. Despite everything the white coating has returned. Can a male horse get a yeast infection, and what does THAT look like? I have had horses for 40 years and I haven't even heard of anything like this!?! Any ideas? I am a new member here and hope to get some good info! Thanks so much !

Welcome Sheila, The important question is, "a white coating of what?". Submit a sample to a lab for cytological analysis should answer whether this is some sort of organism or might give a clue as to what it is made up of. Yeast infections usually result in dark brown thin exudates. I would like to see a well lit, in focus image of it posted here. For more on how to do this see HorseAdvice.com » Help & Information on Using This Site » Uploading Images and Files Into a Posting. Also knowing it's consistency would be interesting. Does your horse urinate within the sheath? DrO

How strange, Sheila. This is one experience that I have not had with my geldings. I hope that you can solve this mystery.
