Hi, i posted back in november (Leg cast for severe lasceration),our horse got tangled in a rope fence and had an open wound with 20cm of cannon bone exposed and a severed extensor tendon,at the time the vets didnt hold out much hope for her,but we gave it a shot anyway.well, the leg is now granulated well and although we are having issues with proud flesh(has had to be aggressively trimmed twice so far) at the moment things are looking quite good. The issue we now have is with the severed tendon, for the first month she would bear no weight at all on that leg and we were told strict stall rest only, but three months down the line she is walking quite well,no flipping of the foot or knuckling over at all, although some times she will hitch the leg up higher and stomp her foot down hard(some leg lifting goes on when she is stood still in her stall).we havent had her out much at all other than to walk 50 metres to hose the leg down before changing dressing(every other day).I have asked my vet what to do next, excercise or not,but as she has never delt with such a bad injury she is unsure.I have read the information on this site about tendon injury but it seems to apply more to strains than severed tendon rehab.Has anyone had any experience with an injury like this or any advice ? also the proud flesh issue , any thoughts?at the moment we are using green wound cream when we see the flesh getting bigger the rest of the time we use vulketan.

Helen would it be possible to start this under your past description as it is a continuation of that same wound? It will help readers with this problem to better keep the flow. Alternatively could you post a link from there to here? I will reply when I see which way you want to handle this. If you need help finding the post or making the link let me know. DrO
