I have a 4 yr old maiden Belgian mare due to foal within the week. For the past 10 days or so, she appears to be starting to bag, but is only full in the extreme rear of her udder. It is very strange looking, She has no milk towards the front of her udder, and her teats are still tight to her body and not distended at all. Is this something I should be concerned about? Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Welcome Jamie,
From your description alone it is difficult to evaluate. If both sides of the udder are about the same, the swelling is not hot and painful, and if your mare has no fever, this may be just the way she is bagging up. I would be more concerned if the mare has received fescue grass or hay in the past 30 days. If you remain concerned you should have this evaluated by your veterinarian.
