Hi Dr O, I'm asking this on behalf of someone who has an elderly pony with incontinence problems. The constant wetting of the hind legs has caused mud-fever like symptoms and although that is now improving thanks to barrier creams and mud-fever leggings, the new skin is very pink and fragile. I thought keeping the skin dry with Keratex mud-fever powder rather than just a barrier cream might be better (although the cream could go on top) as surely it is just keeping the skin soft? I also wondered if a bicarbonate of soda paste smeared on might help to neutralize the acid of the urine and make the pony more comfortable. Have you any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

Desitin original formula or a good generic for it would be my suggestion to protect this area.

I like the Desetin best also.
