Dr. O: For the first time since I've owned her (almost 2 years now) my mare seems to have developed anhiDrOsis. We have had record amounts of rain in our area (southwest Ohio) this spring, and now the temperatures have turned very hot an humid (90 degrees plus over 50% humidity this week). My trainer worked the mare over the weekend, and noticed that her respiration was very high and she hardly sweated at all. Her vet has recommended two cans of beer with each AM and PM feeding to treat another of her horses in training with the same symptoms, and it seems to be working. She had initially tried the One AC and it did nothing for the other horse. The trainer is recommending I treat my mare with beer as well. What do you think? What ingredient in the beer would resolve anhiDrOsis? No one seems to be able to answer my question. Thanks! Janice

Hello Janice, I do not know of anything in either the One AC or the beer that would resolve the anhiDrOsis. It is important to remember that early in the disease process the symptoms are quite variable. It is easy to confuse this natural variability with coincidental temporal relationships between you doing something and the disease getting better. Assuming your horse is becoming anhiDrOtic the recommendations in the article under the "Treatment" topic and "Management" subtopic still remain the best recommendations. DrO
