DrO What do you know of this? Idiopathic Eosinophilic Pneumonia with a secondary bacterial pneumonia. A ID stallion here in the US has it. Is it treatable? Is there any specialist here in the US for this type of disease? I would like to forward on the info to his owner. Thank you leslie

Hello Leslie, Do to constraints on time I am unable to answer specific questions about non-member horses. However I can educate you about Chronic Idiopathic Eosinophilic Pneumonia. I will say if there is a bacterial infection it will have to be addressed first. Check out the article HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Respiratory System » Chronic Lower Airway Disease where I have included the little bit of information available on this uncommon disease. Thank you. Since it is such a rare illness I will add his info here, to help other people facing this. The horse is holding his own..for now. The infection has responded to the antibiotic. His prognsis is guarded. His owner says he is doing well and you wouldnt know he is so sick. He was wormed with Strongid, for possible lung worm and will start his steriods soon. again, thank you for including the info.
