Posted on Thursday, Jul 21, 2011 - 7:29 pm: Hello everyone,I am considering purchasing a 7 year old mare that had a bowed tendon while racing on the track. Per the owner she was given 18 months of rest/rehab and was able to return to racing. When the owner purchased her from the track she did have a pre-purchase exam done and her vet reviewed the ultrasound that the owner from the track had taken. Her vet said that she would be considered fine as an event horse prospect and placed no limit on the level that she would ultimately be able to compete at. At the moment the women has her in consistent work but is jumping over small fences (about 2 foot in height). The mare looks to be a wonderful mover with a nice push over the jumps and is reasonable priced. My plan would be to have another pre-purchase done with the effected leg ultrasounded to see how the tendon looks before moving forward with a purchase. The woman did give me a picture of the bowed tendon which I will try to attach, she also has two videos up of her moving, those links are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaqn9txf0Fw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ47GCmMxrY&feature=related. My aspirations would be to take her at least training level eventing with more conditioning/training/and time. I know that without an ultrasound of the tendon it is hard to advise but based on the picture of the tendon do you think that it is worth moving forward with a pre-purchase exam? Thank you! Susanne |

There are some REALLY NICE TBs up for adoption (many for free) at the Second Race on FB (or .com) who could better hold up to your aspirations. And if you haven't considered it yet, do check out an Irish Draught cross, they are incredibly well suited for eventing! |
