Discussion on Psyllium - can it be from the health food store?

I noticed that psyllium was plentiful in the health food store and likely cheaper than the products made just for horses. It also did not have molasses added, which is appealing to a horse with PPID or EMS who is avoiding sugars.

So, is it okay to use "people" grade psyllium in similar amounts as the equine products?

Thanks in advance.

Chris, I do not know any reason you cannot use the human product.

Just a quick note Chris....I've used Metamucil and have found that some will eat it and some won't. The ones for horses tend to have alfalfa flavoring...which I couldn't find for humans. My suggestion would be to buy a small amount to experiment with what will appeal to them....and most importantly..if you add water to your grain, don't add the psyllium until right before you feed it or it will turn the grain into a brick.
