I might have posted in the wrong place , but I have an older pony, 10 hands, that was non weight bearing on one rear leg, no swelling/heat, i can not find anything other than she is very sensitive if i palpate the inside of her gaskin area, but there is no heat or swelling there either-- if she did have a fracture, would there always be heat/swelling? hoof is cold as well, vet can not be here until monday.. I should add, she does not rest it on the toe, it is flat on the ground, but not putting weight on it, I have pushed and prodded up her back, hip and down ,only the inside of her gaskin and hock area will trigger her to rock backwards..

With a bone fracture yes there would be heat and swelling but it may be hard to detect depending on location. Have you sought professional help?

Hi, and thanks, but I did get a vet out, and it was a high fracture , she was a tiny older pony, and while she was happy and seemingly not very painful standing, she still would not take a step, the vet was not sure at first either ,but after trying to get her to step , and the angle of her leg, she agreed that it was a fracture as well.. So i had her put down..once she was gone, she could then move the leg and hear a click sound.. im glad she was happy to the end,she ate a whole bucket of her favorite senior and soaked hay pellets.. she was rescued fifteen years ago , a very fearful timid little girl.. and was more like a dog than a pony when she passed, Thanks for your input though.. she did finally get the swelling below the area towards the hip-it was noticable because it DrOpped down to the gaskin area.. so with her winter coat, I probably just did not find it until it "settled"..
