I rescued a bunch of horses, and one I have had since July has been having issues. I think she is around 6 yrs old. She doesnt stay on her feet long, and when she is on her feet, she trembles, and constantly shifts her weight, especially in the hind end. She also stands with her hind legs close to her front legs, and when she is laying down I have seen her nip at her side. She is a very flighty horse, that was not handled previous to this, so it was difficult for the vet to get any sort of diagnosis. Ultimately he decided she has gastric ulcers, and I have been treating her accordingly by mixing the medication he gave me in with her oats, and he also suggested 1 cup of corn oil per day. The mare is a bit on the thinner side, but quantity wise eats the same as the other horses, and drinks normally. Mostly she just lays down to eat. I have been treating her for 3 weeks and have seen no change yet, so am wondering if my vet was wrong. Any ideas? Also, this mare could be in foal, as she was in with a 2 yr old stud colt before I picked her up.

Hello quarappaloosa, You describe a horse that has bilateral lameness of the front feet like might be seen with a mild founder or navicular synDrOme. For a discussion on this and more on diagnosing this condition see, HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Localizing Lameness in the Horse. DrO
