I have a 14yr old mare that chronically stocks up she is on on pasture or on 1/4 acres year round.I noticed a couple of days ago that she has a lump under her jaw and the soft tissue from under her chin front to back is swollen. It does this quite often but I don't know why.I think her lymphatic system isn't working very well,Is there anything I can do to improve this problem. She seems well other wise....Lorraine

Hello Lorraine,
assuming there is no sign of infectious or systemic inflammatory disease (fever and abnormal WBC counts) nor any signs of heart problems, there is not anything that I know you can do to improve lymphatic function. I consider diuretics a short time help and if there is uncertainty of a noninfectious inflammatory condition a course of steroids might help.

I suspect the swelling around the head worsens when she spends a lot of time with her head down which greatly increases the fluid pressure inside the vascular system of the head.

Concerning the stocking up there are some things you can do see Equine Diseases » Lameness » Diseases of the Lower Limb » Stocking Up. How aggressively to pursue this should be determined by whether this problem is worsening over time, if so, an aggressive attempt at preventing ongoing worsening should be made.
