History: Friday the June 20 we had a barrel race, she placed very good was no problems with her movements or gaits. Tuesday my daughter couldn't ride so I lunge her for about 5 min and noticed that she slightly favoring her front leg on a circle to the right. It was so slight so I just stopped walked her no lameness. Next day she was walking fine we didn't even think of anything, saddle her up and when my daughter got on her she couldn't even step forward. We unsaddled her and look her over no heat or swelling no abnormalities, checked her hoofs everything appeared normal. But she could hardly step on her right front foot but when I picked her right foot she couldn't keep a balance on her left. When she walked she was drugging her right foot. It was hard to pin point which leg she is lame on. We give her bute and stall rest for 2 days. She was walking better next day slight limp. We stop bute and give her more days off loose in arena she is not crazy there just cribbing all day long. Yesterday 5 days later we tried to asked her to trot she almost fall on her face but walking almost normal. Ferrier will come this week to see if any apses brewing there since I cant trot her and locate which leg exactly is lame. Saturday she was standing on her left leg and pounding with her right looks like no pain there. My question is : is it possible that is apses present somewhere? And if not what possibly can be happening. If she is not improving after the Ferrier I'm taking her to the vet, but would like to save some money before I'll do that. Any help appreciated. |

I am assuming that "apses" is the same as "abscess". That is certainly possible but so are many problems. Only a regular organized exam can diagnose the problem and we describe this process at HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Lameness » Localizing Lameness in the Horse. In the meantime while waiting for a diagnosis we describe how to care for a undiagnosed lameness at HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Lameness » First Aid for the Lame Horse. DrO |
