Posted on Wednesday, Mar 25, 2015 - 11:06 am: I read the older discussion on topical treatment of sarcoids. Wondering if there is more information now about the successful use of some of the creams out there.Has anyone had success or failure with the following: * Balanced Eco Solutions Sarcoid salve * Natural Ginesis Sarcoid Salve * Black Salve * Xxterra * Indian Mud * Crest Toothpaste I have a 15 year old stallion with a small sarcoid on his belly just under the flank. It was there when I bought him and seller tried to tell we it was just an infected fly bite. Pre-purchase Vet check confirmed it was a sarcoid. Anyway, I have owned the horse for 8 months and the sarcoid has about doubled in size. It is now about 2 X 2 inches, so still small. I will post a pic tomorrow. Vet said it is an occult type sarcoid. I had my vet check it about 4 months ago and his recommendation is to just leave it alone and if it starts to grow larger, he will do a surgery to remove it. I read several testimonials about the topical treatments, but am worried that they may not work and might aggravate the virus and cause it to become aggressive and cause a much worse problem. I welcome all comments from those who have had success or failure with topicals. I also have an appointment with another equine specialist vet to have it evaluated. Thanks. Going to take my stallion to another vet for a second opinion soon. |

When I talked it over with my vet, she was reluctant to touch it. Since my mare is long past her show days, my vet said that intervention might cause spreading. I chose not to do anything for awhile. Then, I thought, "what harm could toothpaste do?" She was no longer showing, so we tried Crest ( it had the highest level of fluoride ). Believe me...I have no clue why, but the sarcoid, about the size of a walnut, began to dissipate. It took place over about a year. Today, she is smooth skinned with hair grown back in. 2 years later. Will it work with your's? Who knows? But...Crest Toothpaste will probably do no harm. Might help. Look for the highest level of fluoride. Apply often. |

My stallion's is flat, occult type. Will post a pic as soon as I can get a cable to download from my phone Forgot mine today. |

Then, when it began to get crusty, it began to grow outward. She had it for a few years before we began treatment. I started the Crest because every time she rolled it was breaking open and oozing down her leg and the flies were attracted to it. But, it started out as just a bare circle. |
