Even after PRP last November, it took 3-4 months for the heat to resolve after injections. After a more recent round of blocks, same thing. Heat in the affected areas for about a month. Now that we are in rehab walking over ground poles, there is more heat (a tad of fluid but not lots) when I admittedly did too many reps. But overall the branches and (once) even the body of the suspensory is slightly warm after exercise -just walking- not over ground poles. We are at 35 mins. I have checked with Dr. Gillis about this and she says you don't want heat on an 'every time' basis. How about those of you who have rehabbed? Is this just part of the healing process and so long as there is gradual improvement not too big of a concern? I am buying a ice vibe boot because I would like the option of using that after. I do cold hose whenever there is heat and swelling. |

Is what you are feeling normal or abnormal cannot be answered on a internet discussion board? I recommend you get your regular veterinarian out to help you judge this, it may give you some peace of mind or alert you to early problems. DrO |

I stopped the ground poles until cool and cold leg was consistent every day before and after exercise. Now resuming ground poles but pretty cautiously. We are up to an hour at the walk and have introduced the lakes trail (have to descend a 5 minute switchback with some rooty footing to the lake trail) and reverse to get back to stable (in hand both ways). There's no increased heat with this. Still not 100% sound though in the hind and also dealing with a front end soft tissue situation we thought the previcox would take care of. The soundness my vet did see one day - did relate to the shockwave analgesia effect. But that doesn't explain how he appeared sound in front. At any rate I have a good trail horse and hope in the months to come soundness may make an appearance. He has had 4 shockwave Jan to late March. I guess time will tell! |
