Dr. O.: A neighbor's mini donkey spent 2 nights in a stall next to my 14 year old Trakehner gelding. The two touched noses through stall bars twice but otherwise did't touch or share any space inside or out. I just learned the donkey had just been treated for barn lice. If I strip and use pesticide on the stall the donkey occupied is my horse ok? They never shared grooming tools or anything.

Hello Janice, lice are easily treated in healthy horses as long as you know about the life cycle and sensitivity to different medications. Lice are usually not found off the horse for any length of time so I think you should concentrate on treating the exposed horse as recommended in the article under lice treatment for the "at risk" individual. Be sure your read the section on lice and not mites.
