When my pony came out of the stable yesterday morning, all 4 fetlocks were swollen. I wasnt there when she was turned out, but I have been told that she was very stiff. When I got her in from the field, all were still swollen, but the hinds were worse, and she was still stiff. Today, they were still slightly swollen and she didnt seem stiff to those who dont know her pace well, but she was slightly stiff and was dragging her toes a bit. There didnt seem to be any heat.

She also seems a bit off colour, and she had been trying to get out of work the day before her fetlocks came up. She was joggy particularly on the corners, and has been like this recently, seeming as though the corners increase the strain on her which is why she is avoiding it.

She is 5 years old and stabled at night. She never works excessive, although does work every day, except one day off a week.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks in advance

I have lots of ideas but can't differentiate them from your post I am afraid. The main thing is to decide if this is inflammatory or not and your post suggests it is not, so check out the article, Equine Diseases » Lameness » Diseases of the Lower Limb » Stocking Up for ideas and differentials. I do suggest you give 2 contiguous days off for recovery from ring work.
