I have tried to post this a few times- so apologize if this ends up showing up more than once....my friend at my barn went to a chiropractor/DVM/accupunturer and ended up having her horse diagnosed with EPM- no blood test- no spinal- even more distrubing- he claims to have cured the horse after just 30 minutes of accupunture!! Has anyone ever heard of this??

Dear Cindy,

I have heard of accupuncture helping many different aliments mostly muscular injuries and nervousness issues.

I have not heard of accupuncture curing a disease. It may be helping your horse in some way but only you know if it is really helping. Give it some time.

My 11yr old geld jumper gets accupuncture before and after a horse show. He loves it!! He also had several accupuncture treatments after he took a nasty fall while turned out in the arena one day a couple of years ago. I know it really helped him to recover more quickly as he was very sore on the side he fell on and tweeked some muscles on the other side of his body compensating for the fall. When he got cast in his stall again the accupuncture seemed to relieve his pain.

I would be interested in what Dr.O has to say. He would know better than I.

Good Luck

WTG

PS. I would suggest a blood test if you are really concerned about EPM.

There is a very well regarded Standardbred race track veterinarian renowned for his acupuncture therapy. He claimed he could diagnose and treat EPM by acupuncture. When put to some rigorous scientific testing, neither were true at least to a very high degree of probability.
