Cindy, Both instances my horse had bilateral front heel pain in the past 6 months he actually had Lyme disease. Although this time even with 2 weeks of bute and 1 1/2 weeks of doxy he is not improving. He is 16 years old and has also had a large abscess in the right front hoof. Has your horse been tested for Lyme?

Wendy,
Though I know there is strong feelings in the NE that Lymes disease causes such problems, the problem is that horses can have Lymes and no symptoms. Experimentally infected horses have repeatedly and in multiple experiments not shown any obvious sign of disease.
