Hello, I really need some help. The nearest horse vet is 5 hours away from here and said he might be able to come next weekend which I fear is far too late.

I went to see my mare yesterday and she was three leg lame, and seemed in a lot of pain. There is a two inch long wound on her near point of hock, slightly to the inside. It seems very deep and was leaking yellow liquid which does not seem like synovial fluid.

I gave her 10cc banamin iv plus 20ml penecilin. Plus washed out the wound. This morning she is still as lame, has not eaten of drank anything but she is pooing. I gave the same drugs again and flushed out the wound with saline. There was a lot of pus.

What more can I do? I have cleaned and bandaged it. Should I flush it with dakins? Should I be giving different antibiotics? We can buy everything over the counter here. I am very worried the joint will become infected or is already infected as she is none weight bearing on that leg. Can anyone give any advice? Am going to try to read some articles now but out internet is terrible! Many thanks.
