I'm slowly bringing up my trot work in my gelding who has had both branches and proximal RH injuries (last ultrasound Jan. 2017 indicated some chronic thickening of the branches but the vet is pleased regarding how tight the area is). He has been declared serviceably sound. We are creeping along at 12 laps of the arena total, and I closely monitor how the leg is faring. It seems to be holding up well, and I will be slowly increasing by a lap if all continues. We have been using the hogfuel arena as it is large, but I am thinking of cross training a different surface. There is a fine gravel path that is firm and straight, and its longer in length than the arena lap.
Would it be beneficial to change footing in my rehab trot work to something like this:
Hogfuel warm up (25 min walk) and first trot series (4 laps).
5 minute walk break.
Gravel path trot (equivalent of 4 arena laps).
5 min. walk break.
Return to Indoor GGT footing and trot another 4 laps. Cool down.

Or would it be better to keep on the same footing for the entire workout? Anyone else want to chime in?

This may be my imagination, but it seems that the leg is slightly tighter when we've done with the firmer surfaces (indoor and gravel).

I do have a question for my vet about the hogfuel. My instinct is that its less than ideal for suspensory due to the possible over stretch of the fetlock, but good for the joints!

Yes I did see the reply. I thought perhaps this question may have warranted its own post. My question remains.
