Posted on Friday, Jul 14, 2000 - 9:50 pm: I THINK I DAMAGE THE FRONTAL TENDON OF THE FRONTAL LEGS OF MY HORSE BY PUTTING TO MUCH PRESSURE IN A BANDAGE. WHAT CAN I DO TO TREAT IT AND VERIFY HOW MUCH IS DAMAGE AND IS IT PERMANENT OR NOT? |
|
Posted on Tuesday, Jul 18, 2000 - 8:59 pm: IS THERE A REASON I DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER. I REALLY NEED IT BECAUSE MY VET ISN'T IN PUERTO RICO AND IN THIS CASES THE VERY FIRST DAYS OF TREATMENT ARE IMPORTANT? |
|
Posted on Tuesday, Jul 18, 2000 - 11:43 pm: Dr. Oglesby is out of town. Can you describe what the legs look like? Are they swollen? Is the horse lame on the legs? How have you been treating it? |

Posted on Wednesday, Jul 19, 2000 - 11:19 am: Did you see the article on bowed tendons?choose: Equine Diseases: Lameness: Problems of Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments, and Bones: Flexor Tendinitis Flexor Tendinitis is vet-speak for bowed tendons. |

Posted on Tuesday, Jul 25, 2000 - 12:24 pm: THANKS BRIDGETT: IT IS THE LEFT FRONT LEG. IT DOESN'T LAME. BUT IT STILL INFLAMATED. IT APPEAR TO BE NOT A TENDON BEACUSE EVERY TENDON WAS TREATED WITH BUTA FOR 5 DAYS AND THE INFLAMATION WENT DOWN. APPEARS TO BE INFLAMATED A BONE NAMED IN SPANISH (MENUDILLO). IT IS IN THE FRONT PART OF THE ANKLE . THERE ARE TWO OF THEM SEEMS LIKE SMALL BALLS. I ALSO KEEP TREATING WITH THE FOOD WITH COSEQUIN ( GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDrOYTIN ) AND MSM. ALSO KEEP TREATING WITH COLD HYDrO THERAPY. IT SEEMS TO BE REORGANIZING THIS BONE DUE TO THE INFLAMATION.EXCUSE MY ENGLISH, IN PR WE SPEAK SPANISH THE MOST. WAITING, |

Posted on Wednesday, Jul 26, 2000 - 9:47 am: Hello Angel,The problem is we are unsure what the correct dignaosis is so suggesting a treatment is a problem. If you have acute inflammation you cannot go wrong with cold water, bute and rest but further than that you need a diagnosis for more specific treatment and prognosis. DrO |

Posted on Thursday, Jul 27, 2000 - 8:26 am: Dr O:Now I have a better view . it's a trauma in the fetlock causing extreme inflammation all around due to an excessive pressure of a bandage(24 hours). The horse don't have pain , has good flexibility and walk very good. We treat him with buta paste for 5 days and still feeding with MSM and Cosequin, also cold water therapy. Yesterday my vet treat directly to the joint with Ilactyn v or something like that. I put him in rest since then(14 July) with an open stall with a 1,000 feet pasture. I think is a condition named osselet (little bone)may be green osselet. It has 6 years and weight 700 pound. The trauma wasn't exercising. Am I doing well for him? |
|
Posted on Thursday, Jul 27, 2000 - 3:00 pm: Yes, though the MSM may be a waste of good money: I know of no research to suggest that it is helpful with this or any other condition.DrO |
|
Posted on Tuesday, Aug 1, 2000 - 7:31 pm: HELLO! THE VET SAYS THAT IS OSSELET. SAYS THAT THE INFLAMATION OF THE JOINT DECREASE AND THERE IS NO DAMAGE. SAYS THAT IS OSSELET (ARTHRITIS) IN THE UPPER AREA OF THE FETLOCK. SAYS THAT THIS CONDITION WILL NOT PRODUCE DAMAGE TO HIS PERFORMANCE. DO YOU RECOMEND GLUCOSAMINE OR CHONDRITIN AS A PERMANENT SUPPLEMENT WHEN THE COSEQUIN TREAMENT FINISH?THANKS, ANGEL ALVERIO |

Posted on Wednesday, Aug 2, 2000 - 7:10 am: Angel,You need to learn to turn your Caps Lock key off and use proper capitalization. It is difficult to read posts in all CAPS. Thanks. I think the glucosamine/chonDrOitin one is good since you had an acute arthritis. DrO |
|
Posted on Wednesday, Aug 2, 2000 - 9:58 pm: Angel,My barrel horse had an osselet appear last fall and my vet put him on Cosequin and he is winning again. It is the best form of glucosamine and chonDrOitin sulfate I have used. Good luck, Christi |

Posted on Thursday, Aug 3, 2000 - 8:51 am: DrO & Christi: Thanks very much . He is doing very well . Yesterday he start running alone .Do you think that when the time come to exercise him again, will be helpfull to use any kind anti inflamatory after the workout to prevent more damage? Thanks very much, |
|
Posted on Friday, Aug 4, 2000 - 6:46 am: That is a difficult question: while it may help lessen any inflammation it may also disguise the early signs he needs more rest. A judgement best made by you and your vet.DrO |

Posted on Sunday, Aug 6, 2000 - 8:57 pm: Thanks a lot both of you. DrO , How am I doing with the CAPS?Hasta luego, amigos. |

Posted on Thursday, Sep 6, 2001 - 11:29 pm: Hi,I have a 5 year old Tb who has a bowed tendon. He's basically healed, it's been a year, and he's cold and tight. He does have some residual scar tissue. The tendon is probably two times the normal size. I'm worried that he will never be able to jump. I don't want to show or jump intense courses but, I would like to school it every now and again. I'd like to work up to maybe three to three 1/2 feet. He's a big horse 17h. I'm having an ultrasound done in the next week or so. You don't have to give me a specific answer about this horse but maybe just an idea about healed bows in general? have you known any horses that had second careers with bows? My vet said that on a scale of one to ten the bow was a 6 or a 7, but he's seen worse. He's seen horses return to racing with worse. thanks, Ann Ramsey |
